If you’re looking to grow your own lemons in Melbourne, there’s never been a better time to plant. At Aumann’s Building & Garden Supplies in Templestowe, Eltham and Plenty Clearance Centre, we stock three of the most popular lemon tree varieties for Victorian gardens: Eureka, Meyer and Lisbon lemons.
Whether you’re planting in the ground or a large pot, lemon trees are one of the most rewarding fruit trees for home gardeners across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
Eureka Lemon Trees – Classic Backyard Favourite
The Eureka lemon tree is the traditional lemon most Australians recognise. It produces fruit almost year-round and is ideal for home cooks who want a reliable kitchen staple.
Eureka lemons feature:
Bright yellow skin and classic tangy flavour
Heavy fruit production throughout the year
Strong performance in Melbourne conditions
Great suitability for backyard planting
They grow best in full sun and well-drained soil and are perfect for suburban gardens across Templestowe, Eltham and Plenty.
Meyer Lemon Trees – Sweeter and Compact
The Meyer lemon tree is one of the most popular choices for Melbourne gardeners who want a sweeter citrus flavour and a compact tree size.
Meyer lemons are known for:
Slightly sweeter taste than traditional lemons
Smooth thin skin
Excellent performance in pots and courtyards
Reliable winter fruiting
If you have a smaller backyard or want a lemon tree for a patio space, Meyer lemons are a fantastic option available at Aumann’s Templestowe and Eltham garden centres.
Lisbon Lemon Trees – Hardy and Heavy Cropping
The Lisbon lemon tree is known for its strong growth habit and excellent fruit production. It handles cooler Melbourne winters particularly well and produces high-quality lemons similar to Eureka.
Lisbon lemon trees offer:
Strong upright growth
Excellent cold tolerance
High fruit yields
Classic sharp lemon flavour
They’re ideal for gardeners wanting a productive tree that thrives in Melbourne’s changing seasonal conditions.
